Makarova against Mladenovic in New York

The first couple of this year`s 1/8 finals of the Open Championship of the United States opposed No13 Ekaterina Makarova and Kristina Mladenovic.

Russian left-handed beat the 17th Elina Svitolina with 6:3, 7:5. Makarova made two breaks in each set and conceded one. The experienced player won 28 points from the net from 32 outings. The tennis player from Moscow finished with 41 winners and 31 unforced errors. Her opponent from Ukraine recorded 18 winners and 17 errors.

Mladenovic beat the "lucky loser" Daria Kasatkina from Russia with 6:2, 6:3, to record her best ranking in Grand Slam singles. With an aggressive pressing game, the 18-year-old Kristina pushed her rival to the end-line.

Kasatkina will remember her debut in a Grand Slam. She came on the place of the illustrious compatriot Maria Sharapova and reached the third round of the US Open, which will allow her to make a big jump in the world rankings, where now is No133.
